THE TEN COMMANDMENTS OF TABLE TENNIS

I. Play whatever style you want. Don't let others dictate how you have to play, but listen to advices in order to improve. Your style could be an extension of your personality. The more styles the game has, the richer it is. Bring something to the game.
Be yourself.

II. Play whatever equipment you want, but it should not limit your tactical options or shoot selection. Use stuff you can handle. Know how other equipment plays.
Experimentation is the key.

III. Develop tactics and counter-tactics. To handle serves, points, matches, opponent's equipment, opponent's styles, opponent's behavior, opponent's tactics, anything. Think before, during and after playing.
Be smart.

IV. Respect others. Ask for being respected. Don't use tactics to upset, scare or bother opponents, don't CHO! every point. Play if somebody asks you to play. Try to have fun and let others have his share of fun too. Give advices and help other players.
And be gentle.

V. Learn to win. Learn to loose. Accept your mistakes, limitations and defeats and don't complain when you loose. You lost because you deserved it.
Be modest.

VI. There is no luck. Place your shots and you'll get nets and edges. Instead of sobbing when your opponent gets a net or edge, learn to return those balls.
Be focused.

VII. Improve your style and technique. Improving your weaknesses should be easy than improving your strengths, and remember that a smart opponent will capitalize on your weaknesses. First decide what to train, why and how are you going to do it, then train.
Learn to rally.

VIII. Rules and equipment will change, so certain styles or equipment can be favored. You can change yours anytime. You can also accept those changes and play at certain disadvantage. Styles less favored, or even harmed by rules can still win. It will be just harder.
Never whine.

IX. No unfair equipment exists. No styles are bad to the sport. No players are inferior or superior athletes by any means, and of course you are not entitled to judge nobody. Leave the sport if you think different than this.

X. The only laws to respect are the rules of the game. This is the only mean that shows you how the game is supposed to be played. Read it, obey all the rules, and enforce them. Try to exploit rules to your advantage.
But be legal.

Avoid – hard fast blades with synthetic materials; i.e. – Carbon, Kevlar, etc. If you really “must” have a Synthetic blade go for something that still is controllable like Waldner Carbon or Diablo Senso.

MY thoughts – lighter does NOT always= better. So don’t just automatically ask for a light blade. 9 out of 10 newbies ask for a light blade. They don’t know why, but they think it’s the thing to ask for. Many of the best blades that people rave about are on the heavier side (i.e. Stiga Offensive Classic, Petr Korbel etc.) This is because: since mass=power, manufactures can produce a softer controllable blade with a nice feel, that still has an acceptable power level. Light, stiff, hard blades with the same power level wont have the same dwell time, feel and touch. If little 10-year-old girls can swing a 90-gram blade; you can to.

1) Is there any guides to doing this that you all endorse? think you tube has some... take old sheets off. slowly and carefully not to damage blade esp if its not been varnished. put the blade on the fresh sheet draw around it with a pen, use wet scissors to cut it out, put glue on both rubber and blade let it dry a little and then stick down, use a rolling pin (softly) to get a nice even spread.) then retrim.

2) do I really need special glue or can I use rubber cemement or any other cheaper alternatives? copydex can be used as an alternative

3) When I order a "Sheet" you need 2 sheets of of rubber, depending on your style you could get different ones for FH and BH to fit your game better.

4 The tape that goes around the edges, where can you purchase this and is it crucial?

No not crucial, it is cheap any where that sells rubbers should also sell this. you can use electrical tape instead

Both players play forehand drive diagonally.

Spin - the hidden side of table tennis.
So what happens when you impart spin onto a table tennis ball?

Spin plays an important role in the sport of table tennis, so if you're intending to play at an advanced level, you'll need to master this vital skill.

Generally, the ball is struck with either topspin or backspin - although sidespin may also be added.

Let's have a look at each of these table tennis techniques in turn ...

1. Topspin

Topspin is produced by starting your stroke below and/or behind the ball and brushing the ball in an upward and forward motion.

2. Backspin

Backspin is produced by starting your stroke above and/or behind the ball and

brushing the ball in a downward and forward motion

3. Sidespin

Depending on whether your racket moves to the right or to the left, you'll impart different sidespin

Sidespin is produced by brushing the ball in a sideways motion

So what happens when you impart spin onto a table tennis ball?

Spin effect

When you impart topspin onto the ball, it has a higher trajectory and 'kicks' off the table surface in an upwards direction.

When you impart backspin onto the ball, it has a much lower

trajectory which causes it to stay low as it bounces off the table surface.

When you impart sidespin onto the ball, the ball will bounce off your opponent's racket in the same direction that your racket was travelling when you hit the ball

Using excessive spin is particularly effective when you serve.

Spin practice

Being able to play good spin shots relies on good ball control. If you're a beginner, I'd recommend that you use the following exercises to improve your table tennis technique:

Using the forehand side of your racket and a loose wrist action, bounce the ball vertically to a height of approximately 30cm (12 inches), imparting sidespin.
Repeat 1 above, but use the opposite sidespin.
Repeat the above, but use each side of your racket alternately.

My table tennis techniques:
When practising these exercises, try to ensure that the ball bounces as near to vertical as possible.
Also, ensure that your wrist action produces most of the movement necessary to produce the spin - and that you use a light touch.
As you improve, it's important to develop a variety of strokes because basic spin will be easy for your opponents to read.

• Friction contact occurs when you brush the ball with the racket.

– Most of the energy goes into producing spin (ball rotation).

– Sound is muffled (soft sound).

• Most strokes are a blend of Force and Friction.

– Slow Loops, serves, and pushes are maximum friction and minimum force.

– Fast Loops are medium Force and medium Friction.

– Counters and Kill shots are maximum Force and minimum Friction.

Definition of "Front" and Relationship Between the “Front” of the Ball and Stroke Timing

The area of the ball facing the direction of travel defines the “Front” of the ball. The Front does not change even if the ball is spinning. When you are aiming for a spot on the ball you must also consider the stroke timing that you are using.

Here is an example of how the contact point on the ball will change with the timing you use. Let’s assume that your opponent chops a ball to your forehand that you wish to loop. According to the chart on where to contact the ball for this stroke, the contact should be below the center of the “front” of the ball. Now look above at where that point on the ball would be when the ball is struck at the top of the bounce. Now compare how that location would change if you let the ball fall. You can see how your racket angle would have to change as your timing changes

MMC - MultimediaCard and SD - SecureDigital are two alternative memory card standards.

Whilst they are closely related, they are distinct standards in their own right and managed by separate corporations and associations.

MMC cards are compatible with both MMC slot devices AND SD slot devices. (e.g. Nokia, Siemens, Samsung, Sharp, Motorola phones and SD slot cameras))

SD cards are only compatible with SD slot devices. (which excludes Nokia and Siemens phones and other MMC devices)

This makes a like-for-like comparison between MMC and SD fairly straightforward, as one standard has a much wider range of devices with which it is compatible.

However, it is not quite that simple because SD cards do have some additional functions in the hardware specification, including a write-lock toggle, and some wiring for enabling digital rights management on the card.

In the vast majority of cases, i would say the broader compatibility across both SD and MMC is the more useful feature to have, especially as digital rights management is a feature of most use to owners of copyrighted material who want to protect it.

How to Rip DVD and Convert

Recently one new tool has been released named Tipard Mod Converter Mate which is a combination of DVD Ripper and Mod Converter. The software includes two conversion functions: ripping DVD and converting Mod file to popular formats such as MP4, H.264, AVI, WMV, 3GP, etc..

linux users "formating MMC" this might be your way out

linux users, I thought might contribute a possible non windows solution (if windows crashes whilst formating this might be your way out!). This will reformat your card hence lose everything on it!

If you use a linux live cd (ie whole os booting from cd) you can pop in the cd, boot, re-partition, format and hopefully that should make it work again without changing anything from your window setup.

The best linux cd I can think of for this purpose would be the gentoo linux minimal install live cd as it has a feature called devfs which will should make your cardreader work straight away. Also if you unplug any unwanted usb drives (ie usb hard disk, pen drive etc) that way your cardreader should be the first usb drive and given sda as its label (my guide works around that)

Burn the above file to cd, then place in drive (or just not take it out) then restart your computer and select cd boot (this maybe automatic)

Make sure you have your cardreader installed before booting your computer.
Once the cd finishes booting you should be left with a prompt like this

chances are your phone has corrupted the cards partition table so we'll use fdisk to delete the partition, recreate the partition then format to fat16.

fdisk /dev/sda
p (to show partitions)

You should then see the cards partition (sda1)

d (delete partition)
n (new partition)
p (primary partition)
1 (first primary partition)
[enter] (use default)
[enter] (use default)
t (change partition type)
6 (fat16)
p (to show partitions)

You should have the sda1 back

w (to write partition table and quit)

now if you now reformat the card as fat16

mkdosfs -F 16 /dev/sda1

hopefully that will sort it.
I should say that I know linux and how to use it, but if dont and you follow this guide and some how make your computer blowup, wipe your hard disc or induce an alien attack etc dont blame me (I could do without the hassle )!

btw, "shutdown -t now" to turn off your computer!

HOWTO: Check the Condition of your Mobile Memory Card

IF you are unsure about the condition of your memory cards, the best way to check if it is OK is to use the disk utilities that are present on your PC, either in Windows or at the DOS prompt.

From Windows Explorer:

From Windows you can check the memory using the Error Checking utility available for any drive connected to the system.

To access, connect your Memory card to the PC with a memory card reader. (Remember to insert the memory card into the reader before connecting the reader to the machine.).

The memory card should appear in Windows Explorer, as a new drive letter, and with the label [Removable Drive] next to it.

Right-click on the drive icon for the memory card, and select [Properties] from the options listed.

When the Properties dialog appears, tab across to the Tools tab, and the first option listed will be Error-Checking.

Click the [Check Now..] button and the memory card will be scanned for errors.

Hopefully this operation will report back that you have no errors on your card.

From DOS Prompt:

Open a DOS Prompt (or Cmd Window) from the Startup menu.

At the prompt, type the Drive letter of your memory card followed by colon and enter:

C:> ChkDsk :

The Chkdsk utility will then run, and report back its findings.

If there are any problems reported then the memory card should be formatted:

at the command prompt, this can be achieved by typing:

C:> format i: /FS:FAT

(this will re-format the drive i: (my memory card), to the FAT file system).

This should fix any problems with the card.

Given the natue of mobile memory card products, they are constantly being taken in and out of some form of interface with a mobile phone, a camera, a laptop, or desktop PC, or a separate memory card reader. The number of different devices they have to be able to interact with is in the thousands.

It is not too surprisingly, then that sometimes the state of the file system on the memory card can get damaged.

As often as not, the problem is not terminal for your memory card, but just a software issue ( or in physical terms, it could be called "a temporary disalignment of the all the bits and bytes on the card").

The fix for this problem is the same as for any other file storage device (like a floppy or hard drive) with corrupt or invalid file system, namely; re-format the file system.

Re-Formatting your Mobile Memory MMC Card:

It is possible that your mobile will offer you the option of formatting the memory card if it is found to be invalid. (However, the likes of Nokia nGage, Nokia 6600, and Siemens Sx1 often just prefer to reject the media as corrupted).

In that case, to format the card, you will need access to one or more of the following:

A Windows PC or Mac.
A separate multi-format memory card reader (verify that it is compatible with the MultiMediaCard -MMC- standard).
(This can come in USB or PCMCIA flavours. If USB, try and ensutre it is a USB2 device.
Alternatively, many of the newest laptop and desktop PCs now come with integrated Multi-format memory card readers.

If you are using a separate memory card reader, then connect it up to your PC, and let windows recgnize the device through plug-and-play.

Now you can insert your Mobile Memory card into the appropriate slot in the memory card reader. (Please note that because the MMC card is pretty much symmetrical it is very easy to insert it upside-down in the slot).

Open up [Windows Explorer] (or the equivalent for MAC users..sorry not well-versed in OS X).

There should be at least one icon visible for a [Removable Drive] in the list of available drives. (in fact, there is often a list of about 5 or 6 Removable drives, one for each of the different Memory card formats that your reader is compatible with).

Find the drive that is mapped to the MMC card by clicking on each in turn until it confirms there is a drive present. (Sometimes it is easiest to do this by trying a fully-functional MMC card in the MMC slot first so you can confirm which drive letter it is.)

(Note . It will always be labelled as a [Removable Drive], don't mistake it for one of your PC hard drives like [C:] drive, as that could be catastrophic later on!)

At this stage it may give an error message saying that the drive is unreadable.

By right-clicking on the drive letter, it will provide the option of formatting the drive.

Select format the drive, and the [Format Drive] dialog will appear (Double-check again to make sure it not your [C:] drive!).

There is only one setting to focus on in this page, and that is to ensure that the FileSystem selected for formatting is the [FAT] option (not FAT32, or NTFS or any other option)

(Note: All mobile phones, to my knowledge, and most cameras (etc..) use the FAT file system (or at least are compatible with it) on their memory card media.)

Now click on Format Now ( ensure [Quick Format] is not selected as this will not actually restore the file system space byte by byte, but only resets the header information so the drive thinks its empty again. This may not be enought to solve your corruption problem.)

The PC will now - hopefully!- chug away happily until it has restored the memory card space back to its original configuration (of course, any information on there is long gone by now!).

If you recieve an error message back from the [Format Now] request, then you can try anoither way to format your card, from the command line.

Formatting from the Command line:

Select Start-Run and Type: CMD

A Command window will appear (With the old-style DOS prompt).

And now you can type: FORMAT i: /FS:FAT (where i: is the drive letter for your memory card)

Note. (Remember again to not format your C: drive !!)

Sometimes a format at the DOS prompt will work where the Explorer format fails.

If your problem still persists, the damage to your may be more permanent, and not just a software issue. In this case, it may still respond to a format request in a different memory card reader or device.

If you believe it to be a failure of manufacture, then the warranty on the card offers the prospect of a replacement card, subject to a confirmation of the fault upon return of the goods.

Having said all that, if care is taken with your Mobile Memory card, noting the points above, then it should serve you well for many years without a problem...

3G I phone froze at Apple Screen, no way to restart.

Problem:

While downloading bloomberg app, it hung up and i reset the phone during the install. Since then, it has displayed the apple start up screen and thats it. If you power down the phone completely and reboot it it goes right back to that screen and hangs up. Worse yet, when I plug it into itunes it freezes my computer up until you unplug it again. I'm being escalted as we speak after 45 mins on the phone going thru basics with an Apple Tech. No luck there!

Solution:

turn iphone off the at same time press and hold both the home button and on off button down until apple logo appears then wait till slide phone to on comes up.
Try This:1. Remove Sim Card
2. Hold in 'Home' button and 'On/Off' button together until Apple logo appears
3. Replace Sim Card
4. Hold in 'Home' button and 'On/Off' button together until normal phone screen appears.

This 'fix' worked for me when my phone froze today. Hope it might help others too.
I had the similar problem. Found this suggestion on the web to reset iPhone 3G to it's original settings. You may have to restore your media and data files after resetting. It's the only way out for me since I can't get beyond the "Apple Logo" thingy, and I am too lazy to bring it down to the Apple Store.

Try this:
1.) Shut down the iPhone 3G.
2.) Start up iTunes
3.) Hold down HOME button on the iPhone 3G
4.) While keeping the HOME button depressed, plug in the Sync cable
5.) A message will pop up to ask if you want to reset.
6.) Just click YES and the reset process should start.

5. Save this as key.bat
6. Now there are two batch files. Double click loc.bat and your folder will change into Control Panel and its contents cannot be viewed .
7. To open the folder double click key.bat and you get back your original folder.
8. For more safety keep the key.bat in another location . Only for unlocking copy paste to the original location and double click
